Request for Tenders for SLIS in Relation to Remote Interpreting Services for Marginalised Members of the Deaf Community in Ireland

Request for Tenders for SLIS in Relation to Remote Interpreting Services for Marginalised Members of the Deaf Community in Ireland

Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) is seeking tenders from ISL Interpreting booking agencies to provide a Deaf and hearing interpreting team to facilitate remote and telephone relay interpreting for an IRIS service to improve access for more marginalised Deaf people by providing.

The planned expansion of the IRIS service – to include one half day per week from September to December 2023 – aims to enhance accessibility in Irish Sign Language (ISL) through the Irish Remote Interpreting Service (IRIS) walk-in service at Deaf Village Ireland (DVI).

The objectives are to deliver services to marginalised groups, enhance access to IRIS through a deaf/hearing ISL interpreting team, and improve communication and public information access for marginalised target groups within the ISL Deaf community.

To overcome barriers faced by marginalised groups, SLIS seeks to expand the service by providing a weekly half-day service with a deaf and hearing interpreter team. This initiative aims to reduce social exclusion and facilitate access to IRIS for marginalised deaf adults, such as those with limited sign language skills, those whose first language is not Irish Sign Language (ISL), EU citizens, refugees, Deaf /Blind and those with additional communication needs. This service may be provided on a set schedule, for example, on Wednesday mornings between the hours of 9.00 am to 1 pm.

Expanding the IRIS services with a Deaf ISL Interpreter will increase ease of access for deaf service users and promote social inclusion. The project aims to contribute to full and equal citizenship for the Deaf community by advancing quality interpretation services and supporting the availability of public services.

See link below to the request for Tenders. SLIS expect to receive responses and confirmations, as set out under section 2.4 of the Request for Tenders, to respond to the SLIS Requirements, set out under section 1.5, to include a costing for the procurement of the service for one half-day per week for 17 weeks. Tender responses should be emailed to John Stewart at john.stewart@slis.ie by 6.00 pm on 24th August 2023 (with queries open until 3pm on 21st August 2023, also to john.stewart@slis.ie).
