The Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) is an independent body, funded and supported by the Citizens Information Board (CIB), to develop, promote and deliver quality sign language interpreting services to the Deaf community in Ireland, including face to face and remote services.
SLIS is working to enhance the Irish Remote Interpreting Service (IRIS) following the National Disability Inclusion Strategy 2017-2022 and the Irish Sign Language Act 2017.
To support the operation of IRIS, the national remote interpreting service, SLIS is seeking to recruit Irish Sign Language / English Sign Language Interpreters for a permanent part-time post for the Irish Remote Interpreting Service (IRIS).
The Irish Sign Language/ English Interpreter provides interpretive support, primarily for the Irish Remote Interpreting Service, but also to the Manager, SLIS Board and team, acting as interpreter for SLIS meetings and business needs where required. Interpreters must be registered with RISLI. The role will also involve supporting future IRIS developments, such as new technology applications, to enhance operations and access to remote interpreting services.
This advertisement is for Irish Sign Language / English Interpreters to fill a permanent part time, vacancy. Part-time posts are 17.5 hours per week. The primary location of work is in the SLIS offices at Deaf Village Ireland, Cabra, Dublin 7.
Interpreters will be rostered during IRIS opening hours, which fall within the following:
Weekdays: 09:00-20:00 (including lunch times)
Weekends: Saturdays 10:00-16:00 and Sundays 12:00-14:00

The salary for full-time posts is on a salary scale from €28,399 to €47,331 [17 points, including Long Service Increments (LSIs)] per annum, pro rata for part time staff. Candidates will usually be appointed at point 1.
It is expected that all new entrants to SLIS will be appointed at point one of the salary scale. However, SLIS operates an incremental credit process for appointments higher than point one. This process is applicable to new entrants into SLIS. Incremental credit criteria, based on the competencies for the role, are assessed against employment history as laid out in the application form only.
A request for incremental credit from a successful candidate must be made within the first 3 months of employment. The decision on whether to award an incremental credit or not is a decision made by the Board and is subject to the availability of funding.
The full-time annual leave entitlement for this role is 23 days, rising to 25 days after 5 years’ service, applied pro rata for part-time/hours worked by the employee.
Please note that SLIS has a normal retirement age which is linked to the State Pension Age in Ireland (currently 66).
